Davis Lisboa — Contemporary Figurative Paintings

The Paintings Section from Davis Museum Barcelona brings together a coherent body of contemporary oil paintings conceived as part of an artist-run institutional project. This section articulates painting as both medium and archive, combining figurative tradition, historical reference, and museological critique. Each work belongs to a structured collection and is offered as an original, collectible artwork.

Within this framework, painting is not conceived as an autonomous image but as a fragment of an institutional structure. Each work operates simultaneously as representation and document, echoing the legacy of artist-generated museums from Marcel Duchamp (Boîte-en-valise, 1935–1941), Robert Filliou (La Galerie Légitime, 1962–1973), and Marcel Broodthaers (Musée d’Art Moderne, Département des Aigles, 1968–1972).

The Paintings Section functions as a coherent body of work within an institutional framework, where each acquisition connects the collector to a broader system of historical references and artistic context.

Painting is treated here as a material and archival practice: figurative tradition and historical reference converge within a rigorously constructed corpus. All works are executed in oil on linen canvas using museum-grade materials and form part of an internationally documented archive.

This is the only body of work by Davis Lisboa available for acquisition, addressed to collectors seeking contemporary figurative painting grounded in an articulated art-historical and institutional framework.
