For this painting, I was inspired by Marcel Broodthaers’ work titled «Miroir d’époque régence» (Regency mirror) from 1973. This piece consists of a convex mirror in a gilded wood frame, measuring 142 × 77.3 × 52 cm, and is part of the S.M.A.K. (Stedelijk Museum voor Actuele Kunst) collection in Ghent, Belgium. My intention was to reproduce only the lower fragment of the «Miroir», thus avoiding the eagle located at the top of the mirror. In the reflected space of the mirror, I wanted to represent an abstract space reminiscent of the paintings by the American artist Clyfford Still.
I hope viewers understand that all these works are part of «The Painting Section from Davis Museum Barcelona» and that they address artists who have created their own museums and works, such as Marcel Duchamp (Boîte-en-valise), Robert Filliou (Galerie légitime), and Marcel Broodthaers (Musée d’Art Moderne, Département des Aigles). To continue this narrative, I created the Davis Museum Barcelona in 2009, which is a ready-made sculpture, a contemporary art collection, an online digital archive, a non-profit collective art project, and a cultural entity recognized by the Generalitat de Catalunya.
